My name is Lourdes M. Blanco.  I was born in Guanabacoa, La Havana, Cuba.  I came to the U.S.A. when I was 16 years old.  I lived in Spain for three months, and came to New York where I graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1982.  I studied at Herbert H. Lehman College, CUNY, and graduated Magna Cum Laude Computing and Management BS in 1986.   In 1988, my family and I moved to Miami, Florida.  I was a Banking Lending Officer for 11 years.

In 1997, I decided to change my career and it was the best decision of my life.  I enjoy working with my students every day.  I have continued to enhance my studies, and graduated from Nova Southeastern University in 2001 with a Master’s Degree in Education, Spanish Literature.  In 2010, I graduated with a second Master’s Degree in Education, Guidance and Counseling.

I have taught Spanish at Miramar High School (1997-1998) and Flanagan High School (1998-2003).  I have been at Everglades High School since its inception in 2003.

I believe that learning a second language is an increasingly important life skill for young people.
