In 2014, Broward County joined the national Campaign for Grade-Level Reading (CGLR) to increase the number of children reading at grade level by the time they complete 3rd grade. Partners include the Children’s Services Council of Broward County (CSC), the Broward County Commission, the Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), the Broward Early Learning Coalition (ELC), Broward County Library System, United Way of Broward County, and multiple cities and organizations.. It encompasses representatives from public and private partners representing early childhood education, health care, county and municipal government, economic development, workforce development, philanthropy, and non-profit providers of service to families with young children birth to third grade who understand the far-reaching implications of early childhood literacy to academic achievement, job readiness and household financial security. The work within the Broward Reads campaign has spearheaded multiple initiatives targeting the campaign focus areas and identified areas of need in Broward. By working through the campaign collaboration, Broward is able to combine forces for greater impact, working together to lead and implement across multiple organizations aligned towards a common goal.
