The annual Broward Youth Climate Summit provides a platform for Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) students in grades 5-12 to engage in climate solutions, learn about professional careers related to climate change, advocate for policy change, and promote environmental sustainability. To attend the February 7th in-person summit:

1) Students should know the difference between climate versus weather. There is a module in this Canvas course for that purpose. It is not mandatory for your students to complete all of the pages on the Climate vs. Weather module but it will provide the necessary background for them for a fully enriched summit experience.

2) This year we are asking students to research a climate related issue that is important to their school or community, then create an infographic of their findings to bring to the summit. They will be climate superheroes by researching possible solutions to their issues via what they learn from the summit or on their own, with the ultimate goal of creating a media campaign to share with their school or community. Climate vs. Weather

This is a basic introduction to climate vs. weather for all grades. Students will learn the definitions of weather and climate, and they will learn to distinguish the differences and similarities of weather, climate, climate change, and global warming.

Your students will begin with a Climate vs. Weather pretest. After the pretest, use the provided resources that will provide your students with foundational understanding on the concepts on climate vs. weather as well as climate change vs. global warming. Students will finish the module by completing the Climate vs. Weather post test. This is the same module from last year's summit.

Summit Project

Student requirements and resources. Goal: To create a media campaign based on what is an important climate-related issue in their school or community. Steps:

1) Collect data on a climate-related issue that is important to your school or community

2) Create an infographic poster based on this data to bring to the Summit

3) Learn and collect info from speakers at the Summit for their media campaign

4) Create a media campaign

Summit Event

This module will include information on the summit itself - agenda, bios, etc. It will be updated as we get closer to the event.
