Requirements for The Florida Seal of Biliteracy
The Seal of Biliteracy recognizes graduating high school students who have attained a high level of competency in listening, reading, speaking, and writing in one or more languages besides English. The Seal of Biliteracy is differentiated between two levels of competency.
- Gold – Students need to meet ONE of the following criteria.
- 4 credits in the SAME Foreign Language (FL) AND 3.00 or higher unweighted grade point average (GPA) in those FL courses AND a level 4 or higher on FSA ELA 10th grade*
- 700 or higher on the SAT FL Subject test
- CLEP test score (63 or higher on Spanish FL test, 59 or higher on French, 60 or higher on German)
- 5 or higher on the IB FL test
- 4 or higher on the AP FL test
- 4 or higher on the AICE FL test
- Silver – Students need to meet ONE of the following criteria.
- 4 credits in the SAME Foreign Language (FL) AND 3.0 or higher unweighted grade point average (GPA) in those FL courses
- 600 or higher on the SAT FL Subject test
- 50 or higher on the CLEP FL test
- 4 or higher on the IB FL test
- 3 or higher on the AP FL test
- 3 or higher on the AICE FL test
*Remember, you must take the FSA to qualify for the Gold Seal. You cannot take a different test, such as the ACT or SAT, and use it as a concordant like you can for graduation. The Seal requirement is particular. It must be the FSA. If you did not take it in 10th grade, you must ask your counselor to add you to the list for the next administration. The FSA retakes are offered twice yearly, so make sure you take the test and score the 4 for the Gold!
