Your school day may be completely different than your previous school. It can be confusing at first, but you get used to it quickly. Remember, you are not alone! There are many new students at the school, too! You would be surprised to know how many others are just like you and how many others are also learning English! Here are some things you might find a little different:

When the bell rings, everyone gets up to go to a different classroom.
In most high schools, no one is wearing uniforms.
Everyone is wearing identification badges (ID).
When you have a physical education class, you will have to change your clothes in the locker room. This is not something you are used to doing. Students might feel comfortable enough to change their clothes entirely before you. If you feel uncomfortable doing that, you can change in the restroom or tell the teacher how you feel.

Your classes might be much easier or harder. If this is the case, you can go back to your Counselor to see if this can be adjusted, especially if it is too hard. Your Math and Science classes may be different here. You may have taken several subjects each year. The math and science subjects are separated into courses such as Algebra and Geometry, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc., but they are not taken every year; they are each taken for a credit towards graduation.

Students participate in sports and clubs after school. If you play a particular sport or instrument, sing, dance, act, or have a specific interest, there might be a club for you to participate in after school. Check your school website to see what your school offers and how to get involved.

Students are encouraged to ask questions and speak up for themselves. At times, this may seem disrespectful towards adults. You may witness behaviors you are not used to. If you believe the behaviors you see are inappropriate or make you uncomfortable, you can let an adult know.
