A Few Essentials for the 2024-2025 Band Season!

Over the years, the Cypress Bay Band Program has been extraordinarily successful! Performing ensembles have been invited to highly recognized state and national events. The Marching Band has received high scores at FBA (district assessment) and FMBC (regional) competitions. And highly skilled musicians have hosted onsite clinics that raised the level of our students’ performance.

For the last two years, Mr. Dawson has led the Cypress Bay students to earn the very special Otto J. Kraushaar Award, given to those band programs that have earned straight superior ratings in marching, district concert, and state concert competitions at all Florida Band Association events during a school year!

To be in the marching band, you must be enrolled in one of the following classes:

Instrumental Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion or Eurythmics

Marching Band

The Marching Band is comprised of winds, percussion and color guard performers.

All members of the Marching Band are expected to participate in the annual rehearsal/performance and events as follows:

Mini-Summer Camp (July 17 - 19)
Marching Camp (July 29-August 2)
Evening Rehearsals (August 5 - 9)
Home Football Games
Saturday rehearsals
Saturday Competitions
After School rehearsals (usually Monday, Thursday & Friday)
Fundraising events such as car washes and Publix Gigs, etc.

Fairshare - Includes:

End of marching season trip
1 - Theme Show shirt
1 - Black Sound of Thunder Dri-Fit t-shirt
Music purchases and arrangements
Show accessories and props
Competition registration
Transportation fee (rental of charter buses and yellow buses)
Cypress Bay Trailer transportation driver fee
Instrument purchases and repairs
Annual operating expenses (tax filing, accounting services, etc)
End of Year Sound of Thunder Memory Book (if Fairshare is paid by September 13th)

Band calendar - which you can sync with your personal calendar

Parent, Guardian and Family Volunteering with Cypress Bay Band – We need YOU to make it a successful year.

All volunteers need to have level 1 clearance to volunteer at any school activity
Registration for Broward County Public Schools opens July 1st and is very easy to obtain
Every year, you must reapply to volunteer

We need volunteers for props, fundraising, games, meals, uniforms..we need YOU!!

Apparel for Marching Season:

Music and guard will receive a special outfit depending on the season’s theme that is included in the fairshare
Winds and Percussions are required to purchase marching band shoes. It is recommended you purchase shoes with friends to save on shipping You will need shoes before the first football game on August 23rd. BLACK MTX SHOES (Fred J Miller Inc.) https://fjminc.com/products/mtx
Winds & Percussion - long solid black socks
Winds & Percussion - Black Sound of Thunder Dri-FIt shirt. Can be purchased for $15 if misplaced.
Winds - Gloves (1st pair included in fairshare)

Service Hours - Marching Band students earn 100 volunteer service hours per season.

Music Instruments:

Percussion and big size instruments are generally available for rent at the school for a fee of $10-$30
Rental fees can be paid at the Broward County Estore website - https://osp.osmsinc.com/BrowardFL/
A rental contract is required before any instrument can be taken home or to the marching field
Students are held responsible for the good care of the rented instrument and should seek Mr. Dawson if any damages occur or a repair is needed
Any donation of an instrument is always appreciated and welcomed to our program
For smaller instruments, students can use their personal one or get a rental with local music stores.

After marching season, if your child is in winds or percussion, they will be in Concert Band or Jazz Band

There is a Fair Share fee for concert season of $250, which has been already included in your marching season FairShare.
